Christabel is an activist-researcher from the UK researching food autonomy and economic democracy in Thessaloniki, Greece through a participatory video project. As part of a team based in Thessaloniki an inquiry is being made into the character of decentralised alternative food initiatives and how they are shaped by the context of economic crisis. Christabel is particularly interested in the attitudes to and interactions with government of people involved in these grassroots food initiatives and how this affects movement building and the struggle for food sovereignty. She is a PhD student at the Centre for Agroecology, Water and Resilience at Coventry University, UK.

She has also been involved in the collective editing of an open source book entitled Everyday Experts which brings together experience from activists, farmers and practitioners on issues related to participatory methodologies and how they can help to transform the food system.
