Activist Session: Degrowth in local politics: building policy alternatives
How can the quest for a "good life for all" be translated into political action at the local level? Which policy measures have been successfully framed as ""Degrowth""? What opportunities and barriers exist in engaging with decision makers? How can we stay true to our radically democratic ideals in developing and lobbying for policy proposals? What should our future strategy at the municipal and regional level look like and how can we build effective alliances of learning and cooperation within and between our contexts?
"Aktionsbündnis Wachstumswende Bremen" is a local network of 20 civil society organisations working towards Degrowth in the city and state of Bremen (Germany). After briefly presenting our approach and experiences, we want to open a space for exchange and mutual learning. We particularly invite activists, researchers and municipal/regional policy makers that (hope to) engage with questions of translating Degrowth to the level of local politics.
