This academic special session explores the relatively neglected topic of the relationship between degrowth and anarchism. The panel consists of three papers: one focusing on political and social theory, another on a country specific social movement, and a third on the utopian imagination. Methodologically, all of the papers aim to contribute to both activist scholar and scholar activist degrowth debates by exploring the intersections, overlaps and areas of tension between these two perspectives, providing novel perspectives for the analysis of both. Beyond this, the panel aims to open a space for critical and creative dialogue across political and ideological traditions, and to offer helpful signposts for our theoretical and practical journeys to other possible worlds free of domination and alive with emancipation.
