Volker Mauerhofer is Professor and Chair in Environmental Science (Specialization in Social Science) at Mid Sweden University (Östersund/Sweden).
Volker Mauerhofer is Professor and Chair in Environmental Science (Specialization in Social Science) at Mid Sweden University (Östersund/Sweden). He holds Master degrees in Laws (1989-93), Natural Sciences (1992-99) and Ecological Economics (2002-03) and a Doctorate (1993-98) in Law. Former positions include Attorney-at-Law, Senior Research Fellow & Visiting Professor at United Nations University/Japan, and Coordinating Lead Author of the UN-IPBES Global Assessment/Chapter 6. Currently he is also Professional Research Fellow at the University of Vienna and holds holding a Distinguished Professorship at the National University of Malaysia as well as a visiting researcher position at the Environmental Law Centre of Meiji University (Tokyo/Japan). Besides being member of different legal professional bodies including IUCN's World Commission on Environmental Law (WCEL), he is also member of the UNESCO-related Austrian Man & Biosphere Committee, Executive Board Member & Treasurer of the International Society for Ecological Economics (ISEE) as well as Vicepresident of the International Society for Sustainable Development Research (ISDRS). Besides currently leading the co-editing of several volumes with Springer, Routledge and Wiley, and being editor of the international journal Ecological Economics published by Elsevier, he is co-/author of over 120 peer-reviewed publications and held more than 170 presentations worldwide. Besides supervising students, he has executed academic and freelance research over 25 years in more than 55 countries.
