Speaker: Szandra Koves
Szandra is a member of the Scientific Committee inner circle as well as the Organising Committee of the 5th International Degrowth Conference. She is assistant professor at the Corvinus University of Budapest.
Szandra graduated with an MA in International Business and Languages at the Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland in 1999. Her MPhil degree is from the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna in the subject of Advanced International Studies. Her PhD is from the Corvinus University of Budapest on the topic of sustainable employment within the ecological economics research field.
In the first decade of her career she worked within the Hungarian public administration – mostly in upper management positions – dealing with development policy, in particular with social development. In her early career she worked with pre-accession funds implementing Roma integration projects and was heading the Roma Phare Office in the Prime Minister’s Office in Budapest, Hungary. From 2003 until 2009 she was Director of EU Programmes at the European Social Fund National Implementing Agency, where she was involved in the implementation of development programmes in the field of employment policy, social integration, vocational training and education. This period raised questions with regard to the mainstream developmental paths of the economy and society. These reservations led her to start doing research on alternative economic thinking and write her PhD on sustainable employment in a non-growth oriented economy.
In the last six years she has participated in a large number of national and international projects as a consultant and researcher especially in the fields of development policy, employment policy and ecological economics. She started teaching at the Corvinus University of Budapest in 2013.
